Why I Started a CPR Training Company

Hi everyone! My name is Dan Schmidt, owner of Apex Training Group based out of Las Vegas, NV.

If you've had a chance to browse our website (apextraininggroup.co) and read the "About Us" section, you know that my experience as an EMT and my passion for training are deeply intertwined with my belief that everyone has the potential to learn life-saving skills.

There’s a story from my own life that has significantly shaped this belief. It's not an easy one to share, and it certainly doesn't have a happy ending, but it's taught me lessons that I consider crucial in the world of emergency response and training. I want to approach this story with the utmost respect and sensitivity so I will spare the details.

It happened during a time when my wife and I were moving on to a new chapter in our lives, moving to a new state, and we came across an emergency situation on the road. The details of the accident itself aren't as important as the impact it had on me and the lessons I took from it. That day, I learned in the most real way possible how crucial our training and instincts are in emergencies.

This incident was a tough, real-world lesson in the limits of emergency response and the absolute necessity of solid, reliable training. It showed me that no matter how prepared we feel, unexpected challenges can always arise.

Reflecting on this, I'm often reminded of a quote that you may have seen on our website:

"We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training"

-Archilochus

This experience brought those words to life in a way I never anticipated.

In the time following the incident, I wrestled with a mix of emotions and thoughts. It led me to a deeper introspection and a stronger resolve about the importance of quality training, particularly for those who might unexpectedly find themselves in the role of a first responder.

Almost 6 months after this experience, I had the opportunity to start teaching First Aid, CPR & AED, along with some specialized combat medical training. Through teaching, I discovered that I could not only reinforce my own skills but also impart the value of experience and practical knowledge to others.

I realize that not everyone will share my intense focus on CPR and emergency training. That's not my goal. What I do want to emphasize is the undeniable reality that emergencies happen. Being prepared can make a significant difference in those critical moments.

When I first thought about establishing Apex Training Group, it was with the vision of equipping individuals with the skills they might need when it matters most. I want to ensure that high-quality training is accessible, giving people in our community the confidence to act effectively in emergencies.

Part of our mission at Apex Training Group is to partner with those who are ready to learn, to ensure that in times of need, they can depend on their training to make a real difference.
